The Arena is together with Romeo and Juliet the symbol of the city of Verona. It's the third biggest roman amphitheatre, after the Coliseum of Rome and the one of Capua. It is one of the best conserved and nowadays used for big shows and important events.
The Arena, built during the 1st century DC in the last years of imperator Augustus' reign, is one of the biggest monuments dating back to the roman age. Every year it hosts the very famous lyric festival: from Puccini, to Verdi, passing by Ponchielli, and not less famous are the producers who measure themselves in preparation of operas like Nabucco, Turandot, la Bohème, la Gioconda,….
